Notes |
GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Japanese survey vessel "Takuyo". Year of discovery: 2002. History: Named after the Japanese novelist Ichiyo Higuchi (1872-1896), during the Meiji period of Japan. She was the first prominent female writer of modern times in Japan. Her portrait is shown on the current Japanese 5000 Yen banknote. Ichiyo is the first name as, at that time, it was common and popular for Japanese writers to be called by their first names. This feature is associated with the nearby Great Writers Seamount Province. |
