GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Australian research vessel "Investigator". Year of discovery: 2017. History: Maadjit means water snake in the language of the Noongar people who are the indigenous people of the part of Australia that was adjacent to the Sabrina Coast before continental break up and drift. The name was chosen because of the sinuous tributary canyons which are unusually curved (snake-like) for this area.
