GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Chinese research vessel "Haiyangdizhi Sihao". Year of discovery: 1999. History: Qiufeng means “the wind in autumn” in Chinese. It is taken from a Chinese poem "The Sea", written by Cao Cao (155 A.D.-220 A.D.), a famous strategist and writer in the Late Eastern Han Dynasty (184 A.D.-220 A.D.). The poem depicts the magnificent scene of the high mountains and the sea, encompassing the sun and the moon. It expresses the poet's enterprising spirit of using the scenery to support his ambition.
